晴れ、気温２６度。午後、渋谷で陽気で変な若い男を乗せる。彼はポータブルカセットのイヤーホンをしてハミングしながら乗り込む。彼は「新宿まで！」。私は新宿へ向かって運転している。彼は携帯電話でメールを打ち始める・・・突然、大きな声で歌いだした。私はびっくりする。ミラーでちらりと彼を見た。彼は首を振りながら歌っていた。思う、間抜けだ！ 少し後、後ろは静かになった・・彼は私に聞く「スイマセン！このシートベルト誰か使いますか？」。私、「ほとんど誰も使いませんね」。彼は「よし！ 使ってみよう」。そしてベルトを締める。 私は「ありがとうございます」・・彼は静かに後ろで座っている。 私は再びちらっと見た。彼はベルトを締めて正しい姿勢で座っている。そのときミラー越しに目が合った！ 彼はニタッとすると言う「私が初めて？」。私は「そ、そうですね」。彼はホント面白い。変わっている奴だ。彼は降りるまでシートベルトを締めていた。売り上げ２７，０００円。

The weather was fine and the temperature was 26 degrees ℃. In the afternoon, I got a young cheerful strange man in Shibuya. He was using ear-phones of his connected a cassette player and got in my car humming. He said, “Please go to Shinjyuku.” I was driving towards Shinjyuku and he started to write a mail on his cell phone. Suddenly, he sang in a loud voice. I was surprised. I glanced at him on the mirror and he was singing the song while shaking his head. I thought that he was a perfect idiot. A bit later, my client became quiet; the he said to me, “Excuse me. Did someone use this safety belt?” I said, “Almost nobody uses it.” He said, “Okay! I will use it.” And put on the safety belt. I said, “Thanks.” He was silent on the back seat. Again I glanced at him, he was sitting in the right posture with the belt locked on; at that moment his eyes met my eyes on the mirror. He smiled and said, “Am I the first?” I said, “Yes.” He was a strange and interesting man truly. He continued with the belt locked until he got off. I made 27,000 yen.
