【第８回】
暑い！ 気温２７度。 ３０歳ぐらいの男、彼は私のお客さんである。池袋まで行く。私は池袋へ向けて運転していた。数分後、彼は言う。「バスじゃないんだからさ！タクシーに乗ったんだよ、急いでよ！」 彼の言葉に私はムッとするが、私は「すいません、わかりました」と言った。スピードメーターを見る５０キロ出ている。考える。この道路は４０キロ規制である。しかし多くの車は６０〜７０キロで走っていた。そして私を追い越していく。交通規則を守るのはとても・・難しい・・。もし私が４０キロで走ったらきっと後ろの車はクラクションを鳴らし、お客はもっと怒るだろう。これが東京の交通の実態である。せっかちな男は池袋で降りた。私はホッとする。 夕方、ラーメン屋さんにいく。車から降りて店のドアに向かう。すると背の高い男が店から出てきた。そして私に「すいません、タクシーの運転手さんですか？」 私「そうです」 彼は「目黒駅まで行きたいんですけど、いいですか？」 私は「いいですよ、どうぞ」 私達は車に戻る。そして目黒駅まで行った。 お客は意外な所にいるもんだ。 腹がへった・・・。 売り上げ３４，０００円。 悪い！ お月様は霞んでいた。

I felt very hot. The temperature was 27 degrees ℃. A man who was about 30 years old was my first client and asked me to go to Ikebukuro. I was driving towards Ikebukuro. And a few minutes later, he said to me. “This is not a bus! I took a taxi. Hurry up!” His words made me angry but I said. “I’m sorry. All right.” I looked at speed-meter that showed 50 kilometers. I thought the speed limited on this road is 40 kilometers an hour, but many cars were running at 60 or 70 kilometers and passed me. It was hard to obey traffic regulations correctly. Supposing I was driving at 40 kilometers, probably a car will hone to me and the client will be angrier. This is the actual condition of Tokyo’s traffic. The hasty man got off in Ikebukuro and I was relieved. At evening I went to a noodle shop. I went outside and walked towards the door of the shop. Then a tall man got out from the shop and asked me. “Excuse me. Are you a taxi driver?” I said.” Yes.” He said. “I want to go to Meguro sta. Okay?” I said. “All right.” We returned to my car and went to Meguro sta. I met the client in an unexpected place. I was hungry. … I made 34,000 yen. Bad! The moon was veiled in a haze.
